A presidential aspirant of the Action Democratic Party, Dr Johnson Chukwuka, has dragged the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the emergence of Abbas-Bin Aliyu as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
In Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1853/2026, Chukwuka is asking the court to declare that the ADP did not conduct a valid presidential primary on May 29 and 30, 2026.
He is also challenging the declaration of Aliyu as the winner and the subsequent submission of his name to INEC as the party’s candidate.
Chukwuka wants the court to nullify the disputed primary results and declare him the duly elected presidential candidate of the ADP.
He contends that the nomination process violated provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the party’s guidelines for conducting its presidential primary.
The dispute comes amid a separate disagreement over the alleged unauthorised upload of a presidential nomination form on the INEC portal. The ADP had petitioned the Inspector General of Police over the matter and asked INEC to preserve relevant electronic records connected to the disputed upload.
Meanwhile, INEC’s published final list of presidential candidates for the 2027 election includes Aliyu Abbas-Bin as the ADP candidate.
The court is expected to determine the validity of the disputed primary and the nomination process.
