Scrap dealers have commenced a 15-day nationwide strike following a dispute over pricing and alleged unfair practices in the scrap metal market.
The dealers said they were losing as much as ₦4 million on each truckload, prompting them to suspend operations while seeking a resolution to the pricing issues affecting their businesses.
The development is expected to affect scrap-metal collection and related activities during the period of the industrial action. The dealers are calling for measures to address what they described as unfair pricing practices and other challenges confronting the sector.
The strike is expected to last for 15 days as the affected traders push for improved conditions and a review of the factors contributing to the reported losses.
