The Kano State Government has cleared N32 billion out of its outstanding pension and gratuity liabilities while also employing 2,037 additional health workers as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s welfare and healthcare systems.
The development was announced as part of the state’s activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary. The government said the payment of the pension liabilities and recruitment of healthcare personnel were aimed at improving the welfare of retirees and strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.
According to the report, Kano still has outstanding pension and gratuity liabilities of about N48 billion, meaning the latest payment represents a significant reduction in the backlog.
The recruitment of 2,037 health workers is also expected to increase manpower in the state’s hospitals and other healthcare facilities, helping to improve access to medical services for residents.
The measures form part of the Kano State Government’s broader efforts to address outstanding obligations while investing in essential public services.
