The possibility of Nigeria’s opposition parties presenting a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election remains uncertain, despite earlier efforts to build a broad coalition.
Opposition leaders had initially explored a common platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and President Bola Tinubu. However, the emergence of separate presidential candidates has complicated efforts to achieve a unified ticket.
Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and other opposition figures have continued to pursue different political platforms, raising questions about whether the opposition can still reach a consensus before the election.
Some opposition leaders have argued that cooperation and a single candidate could strengthen their chances, while others have continued with their individual political ambitions and party structures.
The debate has therefore shifted from whether the opposition can form a coalition to whether the various political interests can agree on a candidate acceptable to the major blocs.
With the 2027 election approaching, negotiations among opposition parties and political figures are expected to remain a major feature of Nigeria’s political landscape.
