Plateau State University, Bokkos, has appointed two female Deputy Vice Chancellors, becoming the second Nigerian university to have two women occupying the positions simultaneously.
The university Senate approved the appointments at its 106th Special Meeting held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, while Associate Professor Martha Niri Choji was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic.
Ayuba was reappointed for a second two year term after completing her first tenure, while Choji was appointed for the first time, replacing Professor Pyefa Galadima, who served two terms as DVC Academic.
The appointments followed nominations by Vice Chancellor, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best, and were unanimously approved by Senate in line with the university law.
The university said the development makes PLASU the second Nigerian university to have two female DVCs simultaneously, after the University of Ibadan achieved the feat in 2021.
Choji has previously served as Head of the Department of Mathematics, Head of the Remedial Science Programme and Head of the Department of Statistics.
Professor Best said the appointments reflected his administration’s commitment to equity, inclusivity and merit. He also charged the new DVCs to support the university as it prepares for accreditation of 11 programmes and the commencement of a new academic session.
Ayuba, speaking on behalf of the two appointees, thanked the Senate and the Vice Chancellor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their support for the administration.
