Real Madrid has urged UEFA to proceed with urgency and conclude its investigation into the Negreira case involving Barcelona.
UEFA confirmed on Thursday that it had received extensive documentation from Real Madrid concerning payments made by Barcelona to companies linked to José María Enríquez Negreira, a former vice president of Spain’s Technical Committee of Referees. The governing body said its Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors would assess the new material as part of the ongoing investigation.
Real Madrid said the documents submitted contain evidence relating to events it considers serious and which, in its view, affect the integrity of football competitions and confidence in the refereeing system.
The Spanish giants called on UEFA to advance the investigation with the utmost urgency until its full conclusion and said the appropriate bodies should take decisions based on the findings.
The UEFA investigation was opened in March 2023 following allegations surrounding payments of more than seven million euros made by Barcelona between 2001 and 2018 to companies linked to Negreira. Barcelona has denied wrongdoing and maintained that the payments were for refereeing reports and consultancy services.
Real Madrid said it would continue cooperating with UEFA as the investigation progresses.
