Chinese AI company DeepSeek has partnered with Huawei Technologies to develop programming tools optimized for Huawei’s Ascend AI chips, in a move aimed at reducing dependence on Nvidia’s dominant software ecosystem.
DeepSeek said it is open-sourcing programming infrastructure for the Ascend platform, including computing and communication libraries. The collaboration also includes a “supernode” system built around 128 Ascend 950 chips, designed to improve computing and communication efficiency.
A key part of the effort is TileLang, an open-source high-level programming language for AI chips. DeepSeek says the tool offers a simpler programming model than Nvidia’s CUDA and is intended to make it easier for developers to build software that can take advantage of different AI hardware.
The partnership comes as Chinese technology companies increasingly develop domestic alternatives to Nvidia’s AI hardware and software ecosystem. Huawei recently unveiled next-generation AI processors and supernode systems, with plans for broader use in AI model training.
