Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has clarified his recent description of traffic congestion in Lagos as a “lifestyle” following widespread criticism of the remark.
Hamzat explained that his comment was made in the context of the daily commuting experience in Lagos and the way residents have adapted to spending long hours in traffic.
He said the reference was not intended to dismiss the difficulties faced by motorists and commuters, but to highlight how the city’s traffic has become part of everyday life for many residents.
The deputy governor also spoke about the relationship between traffic, content consumption and Lagos’ growing creative industry, noting that commuters often use the time spent on the roads to listen to music, podcasts and other digital content.
His clarification comes amid public reactions to the initial comment, with some residents expressing concerns about the impact of prolonged traffic congestion on their daily lives.
