Dangote IPO: Religion Should Not Discourage Christians from Investing, Says Rev Hayab

Chairman of the Northern Christian Association, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, has urged Christians to consider investing in the ongoing Dangote Cement Initial Public Offering (IPO), saying religious differences should not prevent participation in legitimate business opportunities.

Hayab said investment decisions should be guided by sound financial considerations rather than religious sentiments. He described the IPO as an opportunity for Nigerians, including Christians, to participate in the growth of a major indigenous company.

His comments come amid public discussions over whether Christians should invest in businesses owned or controlled by individuals of different religious backgrounds.

The Dangote Cement IPO is part of efforts to broaden public participation in the company and deepen Nigeria’s capital market. The offering has also drawn attention to the wider role of domestic investors in supporting Nigerian businesses and strengthening local ownership.

Hayab’s position adds a religious and social dimension to the ongoing investment debate, while highlighting the need for investors to assess opportunities based on factors such as business performance, risk, expected returns and investment objectives.

For Nigeria’s capital market, increased participation by individual investors could help expand the domestic investor base and provide companies with additional access to long-term capital.
