Nigerian troops have killed a terrorist and rescued six kidnapped victims during separate operations in Sokoto and Zamfara states, as security forces intensify efforts against armed groups operating across the North-West.
The operations were carried out by troops under the ongoing military campaign against terrorism and kidnapping in the region. In Zamfara, troops engaged armed terrorists during a clearance operation, killing one fighter while others fled into surrounding areas.
Six kidnapping victims were also rescued during the operations, allowing them to regain their freedom after being held by criminal groups. The troops continued searches around the affected areas to prevent the escape of other suspects and secure communities.
The operations form part of broader efforts by the Nigerian military to disrupt terrorist and criminal networks, rescue hostages and restore security across communities affected by persistent attacks and kidnappings.
Security forces have continued to conduct patrols, clearance operations and intelligence-led missions in parts of Sokoto, Zamfara and neighbouring states, where armed groups have targeted rural communities and travellers.
Authorities have repeatedly urged residents to provide security agencies with useful information on the movements of suspected terrorists and kidnappers while warning against actions that could compromise ongoing operations.
