The Kano State Government has expressed its readiness to strengthen economic and development cooperation with Saudi Arabia, particularly in agriculture, trade, investment, education, healthcare, industrialisation and renewable energy.
The Deputy Governor, Aminu Sule Garo, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, made the call during a ceremony organised by the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Kano to commemorate Saudi Arabia’s 96th National Day.
Garo said the longstanding relationship between Kano and Saudi Arabia, built over centuries through trade, Islamic scholarship, religion and cultural exchanges, should be transformed into practical partnerships capable of delivering tangible benefits to residents of the state.
He noted that Kano had significant opportunities for deeper engagement with Saudi institutions, businesses and development partners, particularly in sectors that could create jobs, strengthen human capital and support sustainable economic development.
The deputy governor also acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian contributions to Nigeria, particularly through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. He cited the Kingdom’s support for the successful medical treatment and separation of conjoined twins from Kano as an example of the humanitarian assistance extended to the state.
The Consul General of Saudi Arabia in Kano, Khalil Ahmed Al-Adamawi, reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, particularly the historical, religious and cultural connections between the Kingdom and Kano.
The event brought together government officials, members of the diplomatic community, academics, business leaders, security officials and Islamic scholars, providing an opportunity to highlight areas where Kano and Saudi Arabia could expand cooperation.
