The Kano State Government has called for stronger cooperation with Saudi Arabia, particularly in agriculture, trade, investment, education, healthcare, industrialisation and renewable energy.
The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Sule Garo, made the call while representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at a ceremony marking the 96th National Day of Saudi Arabia in Kano.
Garo said the longstanding relationship between Kano and Saudi Arabia, built over centuries through religion, trade and Islamic scholarship, should be developed into practical partnerships that would provide tangible benefits for residents.
He said Kano had significant opportunities for deeper cooperation with Saudi Arabia beyond existing religious and cultural connections.
The deputy governor also commended the Saudi government for its humanitarian interventions in Nigeria through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.
He highlighted the recent sponsorship of a surgical operation to separate conjoined twins from Kano as an example of Saudi Arabia humanitarian support to the state.
The Governor congratulated the government and people of Saudi Arabia on the National Day, describing the occasion as a celebration of unity, cohesion and development.
The Consul General of Saudi Arabia in Kano, Khalil Ahmed Al Adamawi, also reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between Saudi Arabia and Kano, saying shared religious, cultural and historical connections had continued to strengthen relations.
The event attracted government officials, diplomats, academics, security personnel, Islamic scholars and members of the business community.
