Australian data-centre operator Firmus expects to report a $77 million loss for the first half of its 2027 financial year as it prepares for a planned $5 billion initial public offering (IPO), according to people familiar with the company’s draft prospectus.

The company, backed by investors including Blackstone, is preparing to list on the Australian Securities Exchange, with institutional bookbuilding expected to begin in October. Firmus counts major technology companies including Nvidia, Meta and OpenAI among its customers.

Firmus has continued to operate at a loss as it invests heavily in expanding its data-centre infrastructure to meet growing demand for artificial intelligence computing. The company currently operates facilities in Australia and Singapore, with additional sites under development across the Asia-Pacific region.

The planned IPO would rank among Australia’s largest listings and highlights growing investor interest in data-centre infrastructure as demand for AI computing capacity accelerates.
