Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to use the second day of the United Nations General Assembly to rally international support for Ukraine, after fresh Russian strikes hit Kyiv and intensified attention on the four-year war.

Zelenskyy is due to address world leaders in New York after meeting US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the assembly. The two discussed efforts to end the conflict, with Zelenskyy saying Ukraine is prepared for an energy ceasefire if Russia agrees to stop attacks on its energy infrastructure. He has also expressed readiness for a trilateral meeting with Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The diplomatic push comes as Kyiv reported further Russian attacks. Local authorities said the latest strikes killed at least two people and injured more than 20 others, adding urgency to Ukraine’s appeal for international backing.

Attention is also turning to Trump’s scheduled talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Zelenskyy has urged Trump to use China’s influence with Moscow as part of efforts to end the war. Xi’s visit to the US is expected to cover Ukraine alongside major issues including trade, artificial intelligence and broader US-China relations.

Zelenskyy’s UN appearance therefore comes at a critical diplomatic moment, with Ukraine seeking stronger international pressure on Russia while Washington explores wider channels for negotiations.
