Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned that any further US military escalation would lead Tehran to change both its weapons and the geographical scope of the ongoing conflict.
The warning came as tensions remained high ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is expected to defend Tehran’s position and pursue diplomatic contacts. The IRGC said Iran was prepared for the conflict to continue if further attacks were launched.
The warning follows renewed threats from US President Donald Trump, who has said he is considering further military action against Iran while also leaving open the possibility of negotiations with Pezeshkian.
The conflict has already affected countries beyond Iran and Israel, with fighting involving Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen adding to regional instability. The situation has also disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global oil and gas supplies.
Iran has separately indicated that it could reopen the Strait of Hormuz if Washington reduces its military pressure and lifts its blockade on Iranian ports, suggesting that diplomatic negotiations could still play a role in reducing tensions.
The developments are being closely watched by energy markets and governments concerned that a wider conflict could further disrupt regional security, shipping and global oil supplies.
