Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdul’aziz Yari, has cautioned Northerners against making the demand for the presidency the central focus of the 2027 political debate.
Yari, according to the report, emphasised the need for Nigerians to prioritise national unity and work toward addressing the challenges confronting the country rather than allowing regional interests to deepen political divisions.
He said the North should approach the 2027 political process with consideration for Nigeria’s broader interests, stressing that unity remains important to the country’s political stability and development.
The senator also highlighted what he described as a possible solution to Nigeria’s unity challenges, calling for greater understanding, cooperation and responsible political engagement among the country’s different regions.
His comments come as political parties and groups intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates over zoning, regional representation and the presidency already generating discussions across the country.
