Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered the immediate removal of the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office.
The directive was communicated on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in a public service announcement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
Mbam was directed to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.
He was also instructed to transfer the administrative responsibilities of the Ministry of Works to the Permanent Secretary pending further directives from the state government.
The announcement did not provide specific reasons for the governor’s decision to terminate Mbam’s appointment.
The development comes only days after Mbam publicly highlighted the administration’s infrastructure record, including the completion of more than 627 kilometres of roads across Ebonyi State.
It also follows an earlier suspension of Mbam in February 2026. At the time, Governor Nwifuru suspended him indefinitely alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for alleged dereliction of duty.
Mbam was subsequently returned to office and continued to serve as Works Commissioner, with the state government’s official website still listing him in that position in its ministry profile.
The latest decision therefore marks another change in the leadership of the ministry under Nwifuru’s administration.
The Ministry of Works is responsible for the planning, construction, supervision and maintenance of roads and other public infrastructure across the state. The ministry has been central to the administration’s infrastructure programme, including major road projects and the Vanco flyover and tunnel project in Abakaliki.
The governor’s latest directive places the Permanent Secretary in charge of the ministry’s administrative responsibilities until further instructions are issued.
