An Israeli human rights organisation has accused Israel of pursuing policies that are systematically eroding living conditions for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, describing the campaign as an effort to make Palestinian life increasingly unsustainable.
The allegations are contained in a new report by B’Tselem, which argues that a combination of military measures, settlement expansion, economic restrictions, forced displacement and settler violence is weakening Palestinian communities across the territory.
The organisation described the developments as an “elimination project”, alleging that the measures are not isolated incidents but part of a broader policy aimed at fragmenting Palestinian society and limiting the possibility of an independent Palestinian state.
The report identifies several interconnected methods, including restrictions on movement, economic pressure, attacks and intimidation, the weakening of Palestinian institutions and the expansion of Israeli control over land.
According to the findings, Palestinians have faced growing difficulties moving between communities as checkpoints, road closures and other restrictions disrupt access to workplaces, schools, healthcare facilities and markets.
The report also points to the expansion of Israeli settlements and outposts as a major factor contributing to Palestinian displacement and loss of access to land.
Humanitarian data separately shows the scale of the pressure facing communities in the West Bank. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says more than 1,150 structures have been demolished in the occupied territory during 2026, with about 1,500 Palestinians displaced as a result.
The humanitarian situation has also been affected by increasing settler violence. More than 1,600 settler attacks resulting in Palestinian casualties or property damage were documented between January and August 2026, according to recent humanitarian reporting.
The report comes amid growing international concern over the future of the West Bank and the expansion of Israeli settlements. Several Western governments have recently taken measures against settlement-related trade, while international officials have warned that continued settlement expansion and displacement could further undermine prospects for a two-state solution.
B’Tselem argues that the combination of territorial expansion, restrictions and displacement is changing the character of the West Bank and making ordinary life increasingly difficult for Palestinians.
The Israeli government has consistently rejected accusations that its policies amount to an organised campaign to remove Palestinians from the territory, maintaining that its security measures are necessary to protect Israeli citizens.
The latest report is expected to add to international debate over Israel’s conduct in the occupied West Bank and the future of the Palestinian territories.
