Nvidia is in talks to become a major investor in Anthropic’s planned initial public offering, potentially investing up to $10 billion in the artificial intelligence company, according to people familiar with the discussions.
Anthropic is seeking to raise as much as $100 billion through the IPO, which could value the Claude maker at around $2 trillion. The plans remain under discussion and could change, the sources said.
If Nvidia joins the offering as an anchor investor, its participation could strengthen investor confidence in what could become one of the largest IPOs in history. Anchor investors typically commit to purchasing a portion of shares before an IPO is marketed more broadly, providing an early signal of institutional support.
The potential investment would also deepen the relationship between Nvidia and Anthropic. The AI company relies heavily on Nvidia’s graphics processing units (GPUs) to power its growing computing needs, while also expanding relationships with other major chip and cloud providers.
Anthropic is backed by some of the world’s largest technology companies, including Amazon and Google. The company has committed to significant computing capacity from Amazon Web Services and is also working with Google and Broadcom to expand access to specialized AI processors.
Anthropic’s rapid growth has increased its demand for computing infrastructure. The company is also developing an in-house team to design custom chips aimed at gaining greater control over the cost of running its AI models.
The potential IPO would represent another major increase in Anthropic’s valuation. The company raised $65 billion in May at a post-money valuation of $965 billion, while its annualized revenue run rate had surpassed $65 billion by the end of July, according to the company.
The listing is expected to be completed before the U.S. midterm elections in November, adding Anthropic to a wave of blockbuster technology listings that have helped drive the U.S. IPO market toward a record year.
According to Dealogic, U.S. IPOs excluding special-purpose acquisition companies had raised $137 billion through the end of August, highlighting strong investor demand for major new listings.
