Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has opened up about the difficult period she experienced while battling ill health, saying she felt hurt by the absence of some colleagues she expected to check on her.

The actress, however, said she does not hold grudges against those who failed to reach out, explaining that misunderstandings and narratives within the entertainment industry may have influenced how some people viewed her situation.

Abubakar said there was a period when she felt particularly isolated after an issue involving her and some colleagues resulted in an indefinite suspension. According to her, she had previously been asked to submit a report concerning the matter, but felt that her account was not properly considered before the suspension was imposed.

She said the experience became even more painful when she subsequently became seriously ill and did not receive visits or assistance from some of the people involved.

Despite the difficult experience, the actress said she believes her survival was ultimately an act of divine intervention.

Abubakar said she witnessed the reactions and judgments of people around her during her illness but has chosen not to remain focused on what happened in the past.

She described herself as a changed person and said the experience had altered the way she communicates and relates with people.

The actress also acknowledged that people may sometimes act based on information they receive from others without knowing the complete circumstances surrounding a situation.

She said she therefore does not blame or judge colleagues who may have misunderstood what happened.

Abubakar also expressed appreciation to people who offered her support during her difficult period, particularly those who assisted with her medical needs.

She mentioned singer Patoranking among those who responded positively when she reached out for help. She also acknowledged former footballer Ahmed Musa for his kindness.

The actress expressed particular gratitude to reality television personality Mercy Eke, whom she said surprised her with the level of support she provided.

She also appreciated fellow actresses Destiny Etiko, Lizzy Gold, Monica Friday, Queeneth Agbor and Regina Daniels for helping with medical treatment.

According to Abubakar, the assistance she received from these individuals remains something she will always appreciate, particularly because it came during a period when she was struggling with her health.

She also disclosed that she contacted music executive Don Jazzy several times but did not receive a response.

Despite the painful memories, Abubakar said she still has love for her colleagues and does not want her past experiences to define her relationships going forward.

The actress said her journey through illness has strengthened her faith and changed her perspective on life, adding that she is grateful to have survived a period when some people did not expect her to pull through.

For Abubakar, the experience has become part of her past, and she is now focused on the future and the person she has become.
