Suspected bandits have killed three officials of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State, while the younger brother of a state lawmaker was abducted in a separate attack in the area.

The vigilantes were reportedly conducting routine security checks along the Zaria Pambegua axis when they attempted to stop a red Volkswagen Golf suspected of carrying suspicious occupants.

According to security officials, the driver refused to stop, prompting the vigilantes to pursue the vehicle. The suspects allegedly opened fire during the chase, killing one of the operatives identified as Dantani.

The attackers reportedly turned back towards the Kaduna State Vigilance Service office, where they opened fire again, killing two other operatives identified as Hamisu and Musa before escaping towards Zaria.

The incident has heightened concerns over the security situation in communities around Kubau, where vigilante groups have increasingly played a role in supporting formal security agencies against bandit attacks.

The Kaduna State Vigilance Service commander, Ali Audu, a retired police commissioner, described the deaths as a painful loss to the service and commiserated with the families of the victims.

He commended the deceased operatives for their commitment and courage while assuring their families that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.

Audu said security measures had been strengthened across Pambegua and neighbouring communities as efforts continued to locate the abducted victim and track down those responsible for the attacks.

In a separate incident, the younger brother of Shehu Pambegua, who represents Kubau Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, was abducted from his residence.

The victim, identified as Sanusi, was reportedly taken by the attackers shortly after the killing of the three vigilantes.

Security personnel have intensified surveillance in the area as authorities work to prevent further attacks and secure the release of the abducted resident.

The latest incident adds to the growing security challenges facing parts of Kaduna State, where bandit attacks, kidnappings and attacks on security personnel continue to threaten communities and disrupt economic activities.

Residents in affected areas have continued to call for stronger security operations and improved protection for communities confronting armed groups.
