Law officers in Lagos State have backed the proposed five year extension of their retirement age from 60 to 65 years, saying the move would improve their conditions of service.
The officers argued that the proposed extension would bring their retirement age in line with that of Magistrates and promote fairness within the state’s justice system.
According to the officers, extending the retirement age would enable experienced legal practitioners to remain in service and continue contributing their knowledge and expertise to the administration of justice.
They also maintained that retaining senior law officers for an additional five years would help strengthen the legal workforce, improve institutional experience and ensure continuity in the justice system.
The proposal is expected to generate further consideration as stakeholders examine ways to harmonise the conditions of service of law officers and other judicial personnel in Lagos State.
