The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects allegedly involved in the vandalism and theft of public infrastructure along the Lagos Coastal Road.
The arrests followed investigations into the repeated removal of manhole covers and other infrastructure along the major highway.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olufemi Dare, disclosed that about 1,800 manhole covers had been stolen from the coastal road between January and August 2026.
He explained that the vandals reportedly break the concrete covers and remove the iron reinforcement inside them for sale. About 1,000 metres of clear-view fencing along the highway and 75 directional signs were also reportedly stolen.
The police said investigations are ongoing to identify other persons connected to the vandalism and bring them to justice.
Authorities warned that continued vandalism of the highway could endanger motorists and undermine the safety and functionality of the major road.
