Taraba State has recorded significant progress in maternal and child healthcare, reducing the proportion of children who have received no routine vaccinations from 24 per cent to four per cent.

The Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency (TSPHCDA) also disclosed that skilled birth attendance in the state increased from 54.7 per cent to 74.5 per cent, reflecting improved access to maternal and child health services.

The Executive Secretary of TSPHCDA, Dr Tukura Nuhu, announced the figures during a media briefing in Jalingo, attributing the progress to ongoing reforms in the state’s primary healthcare system.

According to him, Taraba also emerged as the best-performing state in Nigeria in the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Measles-Rubella vaccination campaigns.

Nuhu said the state had recruited 450 health personnel, 336 emergency ambulance staff and 480 community-based health workers as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery.

He added that 113 primary healthcare facilities had been revitalised across the state’s wards under the IMPACT project.

The development is expected to further improve access to essential healthcare services, particularly for women, newborns and children in underserved communities across Taraba.
