The Kano State Government has approved N300 million to support a mass wedding programme organised by the Hisbah Board, aimed at assisting prospective couples and promoting stable family values across the state.
Chairman of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Aminu Daurawa, announced the initiative during a pre-marital orientation programme held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
According to Daurawa, each bride will receive N200,000 to cover dowry expenses and provide start-up support, with the funds to be paid directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts to ensure transparency.
Beyond the financial assistance, the state government will also provide household furniture for the newlyweds, while each groom will receive 10 yards of fabric, a cap, shoes, and food items to help ease the financial burden of starting married life.
The Hisbah Board said the initiative is designed to strengthen families by reducing the economic challenges associated with marriage. It also reiterated its commitment to resolving marital disputes through mediation, urging couples to seek reconciliation through the board before considering divorce.
During the orientation session, intending couples were encouraged to build their marriages on mutual respect, love, responsibility, and understanding as part of efforts to foster lasting and peaceful homes in Kano State.
