The Rivers State Police Command has dismantled a suspected kidnapping syndicate operating in parts of the state, leading to the arrest of five suspects during a coordinated security operation aimed at tackling violent crime.
The operation, carried out by officers of the command’s tactical unit following credible intelligence, targeted suspected hideouts linked to the criminal group. Police authorities said the suspects are believed to have been involved in a series of kidnapping incidents that have heightened security concerns in several communities across the state.
According to the police, the operation also led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, communication devices and other items believed to have been used in carrying out criminal activities. Security operatives are continuing investigations to determine the full extent of the gang’s operations and identify other members who may still be at large.
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State commended the officers involved in the successful operation, describing it as another major step in the command’s ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements. He reiterated the commitment of the police to protecting lives and property through intelligence driven policing and sustained security patrols.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes.
Police authorities assured the public that the arrested suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. They also reaffirmed that security operations will continue across Rivers State to prevent criminal groups from regrouping or relocating to other communities.
The latest arrests come amid intensified efforts by security agencies to curb kidnapping and related offences in Rivers State and other parts of the Niger Delta, where authorities have increased surveillance and intelligence gathering to improve public safety.
