The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has approved the evacuation of debris from the site of the collapsed Gombe State House of Assembly complex to facilitate ongoing investigations into the cause of the structural failure.

The council said the approval followed preliminary assessments by its investigative team, noting that the controlled removal of debris would enable experts to conduct detailed forensic examinations while ensuring public safety around the affected site.

COREN reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out a thorough and transparent investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse and identify any technical or regulatory lapses that may have contributed to the incident.

The engineering regulatory body assured the public that findings from the investigation would guide recommendations aimed at preventing similar occurrences and strengthening compliance with engineering standards and building regulations across the country.

The council also urged engineers, contractors, developers and relevant stakeholders to adhere strictly to approved construction standards, professional ethics and quality assurance measures to safeguard lives and property.

The collapse of the Gombe State House of Assembly complex has drawn national attention, with authorities emphasising the need for a comprehensive investigation to establish accountability and reinforce confidence in public infrastructure development.
