New Delhi — Meta has apologised to the Indian government after a Facebook post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was temporarily restricted due to what the company described as an operational error.
The social media giant confirmed that the restriction was unintentional and has since restored the post. Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, Joel Kaplan, also apologised to India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology over the incident.
The temporary restriction drew criticism from Indian authorities, who summoned Meta representatives to explain what led to the action. The company reassured the government that it is reviewing the issue to prevent similar errors in the future.
The incident comes as Meta continues to face increased scrutiny over its content moderation policies in one of its largest markets.
