Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has unveiled a state-of-the-art Sickle Cell Centre and Disease Control Complex as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare system and improve the management of genetic and infectious diseases.

The newly inaugurated facilities are expected to enhance access to specialized medical care for individuals living with sickle cell disorder while reinforcing the state’s capacity for disease surveillance, prevention, emergency response, and public health interventions.

Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Yusuf said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and investing in critical medical infrastructure that addresses the health needs of residents.

He noted that the Sickle Cell Centre would provide comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, counseling, and support services for patients, while the Disease Control Complex would serve as a hub for monitoring disease outbreaks, coordinating rapid response efforts, and strengthening epidemic preparedness.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to prioritize the health sector through sustained investments in modern medical facilities, healthcare personnel, and essential equipment to ensure quality healthcare services across Kano State.

Health experts and stakeholders at the event described the facilities as a major milestone in the state’s public health development, noting that they would improve early detection and management of communicable diseases while offering specialized care to people affected by sickle cell disorder.

The inauguration underscores the Kano State Government’s broader agenda of expanding access to quality healthcare, improving health outcomes, and building a more resilient healthcare system capable of responding effectively to current and emerging public health challenges.
