A police officer and two other residents have been killed following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on a community in Sokoto State, in the latest wave of insecurity affecting parts of Nigeria’s North-West.
According to security sources, the assailants stormed the village in the early hours of the attack, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents. The police officer was reportedly killed while responding to the incident, while two civilians also lost their lives during the assault.
Several residents were forced to flee their homes as the attackers operated in the community, with reports indicating that properties were damaged and valuables carted away before the assailants retreated.
Security personnel were subsequently deployed to the area to restore calm, while efforts have been intensified to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
Authorities have assured residents that operations are ongoing to strengthen security across vulnerable communities and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
