A leading recycling company has announced that it processed 858 tonnes of plastic waste in 2025, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and the promotion of a circular economy.

The company said the achievement reflects its growing investment in waste recovery, recycling infrastructure and community based collection initiatives aimed at reducing plastic pollution while creating economic opportunities across the value chain.

According to the firm, the recycled plastic materials were recovered from households, businesses, markets and industrial facilities before being processed into reusable raw materials for the manufacturing sector. The initiative has helped reduce the volume of plastic waste ending up in landfills, drainage systems and water bodies.

Management noted that increasing public awareness, stronger partnerships with waste collectors and improved recycling technologies contributed significantly to the company’s performance during the year. It added that expanding collection networks has enabled more communities to participate in responsible waste disposal and recycling programmes.

The company emphasized that plastic recycling plays a critical role in conserving natural resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting sustainable industrial production. It also highlighted the economic benefits of recycling, including job creation for waste collectors, transporters and recycling professionals.

Environmental experts have continued to advocate greater investment in recycling infrastructure, noting that Nigeria generates millions of tonnes of plastic waste annually, much of which remains improperly managed. They argue that strengthening the recycling industry would not only improve environmental protection but also provide valuable raw materials for local manufacturers.

Industry stakeholders also called for stronger collaboration between government agencies, private sector operators and the public to improve waste segregation, collection systems and recycling awareness across the country.

The company expressed optimism about expanding its operations in the coming years through increased investment in modern recycling facilities and partnerships that will enhance plastic recovery rates while contributing to Nigeria’s environmental sustainability goals.

The latest milestone reflects the growing role of private sector participation in addressing plastic pollution and advancing a more sustainable and resource efficient economy.
