he Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Adamawa State Chapter, has honoured the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Health Contributory Management Agency, Dr. Amos Ujulu, and the Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Suleiman Saidu Bashiru, with Awards of Excellence for their contributions to healthcare development in the state.

The awards were presented during the 2026 Annual Scientific Conference and General Meeting of the Association, in recognition of the duo’s commitment to improving healthcare access, strengthening service delivery and advancing sustainable health systems across Adamawa State.

The recognition, according to a statement by Abubakar Mohammed, Head of the Information Unit, reflects the growing importance of effective leadership, collaboration and system based approaches in the development of the state’s health sector.

Under Dr. Amos Ujulu’s leadership, the Adamawa State Health Contributory Management Agency has continued to expand access to affordable healthcare through structured health insurance schemes aimed at reducing the burden of out of pocket medical expenses on residents.

Similarly, Dr. Suleiman Saidu Bashiru has contributed significantly to the strengthening of primary healthcare services across the state, with efforts focused on improving access to quality healthcare at the grassroots and enhancing service delivery in local communities.

Their contributions represent complementary approaches to achieving Universal Health Coverage, with effective health insurance schemes supporting strong primary healthcare systems to ensure that residents can access essential medical services without suffering financial hardship.

Universal Health Coverage seeks to ensure that everyone can access the healthcare services they need without being pushed into financial hardship. Through pooled resources, improved service delivery and targeted interventions for vulnerable populations, Adamawa State continues to make progress towards this objective.

The NMA awards therefore serve not only as recognition of the two health leaders but also as an endorsement of ongoing efforts to build stronger, more accessible and sustainable healthcare systems in the state.

As Adamawa State continues its pursuit of Universal Health Coverage, the recognition is expected to encourage sustained commitment, innovation and collaboration among stakeholders in the health sector.
