U.S. Strikes Iran as Houthis Reportedly Allow Chinese Ships to Transit Red Sea

The United States carried out another round of military strikes against Iran, while reports emerged that Yemen’s Houthi movement has allowed Chinese commercial vessels to pass through waters under its influence, highlighting the increasingly complex geopolitical dynamics surrounding the conflict.

U.S. forces continued operations against Iranian military targets as part of Washington’s campaign to weaken Tehran’s military capabilities following escalating hostilities across the Middle East. U.S. officials said the strikes targeted facilities linked to missile and drone operations, describing the action as necessary to protect American forces and international shipping.

Separately, Houthi officials indicated that Chinese ships would be permitted to transit the Red Sea and nearby waters without being targeted, while maintaining that vessels linked to countries supporting military operations against Yemen or Iran remain at risk. The Houthis have repeatedly said their maritime attacks are aimed at pressuring governments they accuse of backing hostile actions in the region.

The reported exemption for Chinese vessels comes as commercial shipping companies continue to reroute traffic because of security concerns in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, two of the world’s most strategically important maritime corridors. Industry analysts said selective passage policies could further complicate international shipping and insurance markets.

China has consistently called for de-escalation in the Middle East and has urged all parties to resolve disputes through dialogue. Beijing has not commented publicly on the Houthi statement regarding Chinese shipping.

The latest developments underscore the widening regional impact of the U.S.-Iran confrontation, with maritime security remaining a major concern for governments and global energy markets.
