Boko Haram has released an obituary video for one of its media operatives, identified as Abu Salim al Barnawi, who was killed by Nigerian troops during an attempted attack on a military camp.
According to a report by PUNCH Online, the three minute, three second video was narrated in Arabic and showed the deceased terrorist operating a camera and participating in various operations carried out by the group.
The Acting Military Information Officer of the North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, said al Barnawi had previously led raids into Cameroon before joining the media wing of the terrorist organisation.
Goni said the terrorist was killed last week when members of the group attacked a Nigerian military camp, adding that he was among those responsible for recording the group’s activities.
The development followed a failed infiltration attempt by Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, terrorists into Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to the military, the terrorists attempted to use the cover of darkness to breach the troops’ position and loot cholera medical supplies.

Troops reportedly neutralised an ISWAP cameraman during the operation and recovered a Sony camcorder containing video materials that allegedly indicated the presence of three foreign facilitators, including a Palestinian Arab identified as a trainer and a Moroccan Arab serving as a medical doctor for the terrorist group.
The troops also recovered several rounds of PKT and 7.62mm Special ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat items during the operation.
The military said the operation further demonstrated the continued efforts of troops under Operation Hadin Kai to disrupt terrorist activities and prevent attacks on military formations and communities in the North East.
