U.S. Reinforces Air Power in Middle East as Trump Weighs Wider Military Campaign

The United States is increasing the number of military aircraft deployed to the Middle East as President Donald Trump considers expanding military operations against Iran, raising concerns that the conflict could widen further across the region.

The Pentagon has ordered additional fighter jets, surveillance aircraft and aerial refuelling tankers to the Middle East to strengthen the protection of U.S. forces and improve operational capabilities as hostilities with Iran intensify. U.S. defence officials said the deployments are intended to provide greater flexibility should the conflict escalate.

The military build up comes after days of intensified exchanges between the United States and Iran, including U.S. strikes on Iranian military infrastructure and retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Tehran targeting American facilities and strategic assets in the Gulf.

Trump has not publicly confirmed whether he has authorised an expanded military campaign but has said the United States will continue taking action to protect its forces, allies and international shipping routes. Senior administration officials said the president is reviewing a range of military options while continuing consultations with defence and intelligence advisers.

The additional aircraft are expected to support air defence missions, intelligence gathering, reconnaissance operations and precision strike capabilities. Defence analysts said the reinforcements would also improve the U.S. military’s ability to respond rapidly to threats against American personnel and regional allies.

The growing U.S. military presence has heightened concerns among Gulf states and international observers that the conflict could spread beyond Iran and involve additional regional actors. Commercial airlines and shipping companies are also monitoring the security situation as tensions continue to affect airspace and maritime routes across the Middle East.

The United Nations, the European Union and several regional governments have renewed calls for restraint and diplomacy, warning that a broader war could disrupt global energy supplies, threaten international trade and further destabilise an already volatile region.
