The United States and Iran have exchanged fresh military strikes, further escalating tensions in the Middle East as both sides continue to confront each other over security in the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. forces carried out a new round of strikes targeting Iranian coastal defence systems, missile sites and military infrastructure. Washington said the operations were aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and maintaining freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway.

Iran responded by launching missile attacks against U.S. military facilities in Jordan and Kuwait and warned neighbouring countries against supporting American military operations. Tehran also described the conflict as an “existential war” and vowed to continue resisting what it called U.S. aggression.

Iranian officials reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz remains a “red line” and warned that any attempt to seize or control the waterway would be met with force. The strait is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, handling a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.

The latest escalation has heightened concerns over global energy security, with shipping companies reassessing routes through the Gulf and financial markets reacting to fears of prolonged disruption to oil supplies. Analysts say a sustained conflict could have far reaching economic consequences beyond the region.

Despite the intensifying military exchanges, international leaders continue to call for restraint and a return to diplomacy, warning that further escalation could destabilise the wider Middle East and threaten global trade.
