Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has sworn in the newly elected chairmen of the state’s 21 Local Government Areas, charging them to provide effective leadership, uphold accountability and accelerate grassroots development.

According to a statement from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communications, the swearing in ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Yola and was attended by top government officials, lawmakers, party leaders, traditional rulers and supporters from across the state.

The oath of office and allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Hafsat Abdurrahman.

Congratulating the newly inaugurated chairmen, Governor Fintiri commended the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission for conducting what he described as a peaceful, credible and transparent local government election.

He noted that his administration has successfully conducted four local government elections within seven years, describing the achievement as unprecedented in the history of the state.

The governor reminded the chairmen that they had entered into a social contract with the electorate and must justify the confidence reposed in them through transparent, responsive and people centred governance.

Governor Fintiri urged them to manage public resources prudently, remain accessible to their constituents and work closely with traditional rulers and development area administrators to address the needs of their communities.

He also directed the council chairmen to remain in their respective local government areas and ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots, stressing that the era of absentee leadership was over.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated chairmen, the Chairman of Yola North Local Government Area, Barrister Ibrahim Jibrin Jimeta, thanked Governor Fintiri for providing a level playing field that ensured the conduct of free and fair elections.

He described the governor as a transformational leader whose developmental strides have repositioned Adamawa State and pledged that the new council chairmen would complement his administration’s efforts by implementing people centred policies and programmes across the 21 local government areas.

The ceremony was attended by members of the National Assembly, the Adamawa State House of Assembly, senior government officials, party stakeholders, family members and well wishers of the newly inaugurated council chairmen.
