Trump Financial Disclosure Shows Crypto Windfall Shifted Into Traditional Investments

WASHINGTON, July 13 — U.S. President Donald Trump directed a significant portion of the proceeds generated from his family’s cryptocurrency ventures into traditional investments such as stocks and bonds, according to newly released financial disclosures, even as he and his sons continued to publicly promote digital assets.

The filings, submitted to the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, show that Trump earned more than $1.4 billion in 2025 from cryptocurrency ventures linked to his family, including World Liberty Financial and the Trump meme coin.

An analysis of the disclosures by Reuters found that the president’s portfolio of stocks and bonds expanded dramatically as cryptocurrency revenue flowed into his personal finances.

The filings indicate that Trump held between $703 million and $2.6 billion in traditional financial assets at the end of 2025, compared with holdings valued between $225 million and $608 million a year earlier. Because federal disclosure forms report assets in value ranges rather than exact figures, it is not possible to determine precisely how much of the cryptocurrency income was transferred into conventional investments.

Although Trump continues to maintain substantial holdings in digital assets, several cryptocurrency experts told Reuters that the disclosures suggest he does not rely on cryptocurrencies as the primary store of his personal wealth.

Timothy Massad, Director of the Digital Assets Policy Project at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and former Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, said the filings reveal a contrast between Trump’s public support for digital assets and his personal investment strategy.

“Although the President talks about digital assets as the frontier of finance and making the United States the crypto capital of the world, the disclosure form suggests his personal strategy is to make a quick buck from crypto through the sale of his meme coin and World Liberty tokens, but then invest his profits in traditional assets like stocks and bonds,” Massad told Reuters.

The disclosures come after a Reuters investigation published last month found that retail investors in the four principal Trump backed cryptocurrency projects had collectively lost an estimated $2.3 billion as of April.

Significant Cryptocurrency Holdings Remain

Despite increasing his exposure to conventional investments, Trump continues to hold sizeable cryptocurrency assets.

The disclosure shows that he owns 15.75 billion World Liberty Financial governance tokens, valued at more than $50 million, which he received in exchange for his involvement in founding the company. As a co founder, Trump is subject to a longer vesting period before he can sell those holdings.

The companies managing Trump’s interests in World Liberty Financial and the Trump meme coin also held at least $160 million in Bitcoin and Ether, together with up to $6 million in other digital tokens at the end of 2025.

That represents a substantial increase from the $1 million to $5 million in Ether holdings disclosed at the end of 2024.

Trump Organization Defends Financial Strategy

Responding to the disclosures, a spokesperson for The Trump Organization said the filings demonstrate that the company continues to maintain a strong financial position.

“The President’s financial disclosure demonstrates that The Trump Organization continues to maintain a strong financial position, supported by world class, valuable assets, substantial liquidity and a conservative balance sheet,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson did not explain why a significant portion of cryptocurrency related earnings had been invested in traditional financial instruments.

The White House told Reuters that Trump’s assets are held in “fully discretionary accounts managed by independent third party financial institutions.”

David Wachsman, a spokesperson for World Liberty Financial, said the company remains focused on long term growth.

“World Liberty has been built for the long term and we strongly believe the future of financial services will be architected with digital asset technology,” he said.

Trump’s Sons Continue to Champion Crypto

Trump’s eldest sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., oversee the trust that manages the president’s financial interests and have remained vocal advocates of the family’s cryptocurrency ventures.

Since November 2024, Eric Trump has repeatedly promoted Bitcoin during media appearances and industry conferences, describing it as “the greatest asset” of modern times and predicting it could eventually reach $1 million per coin.

He also said last year that President Trump “believed in digital assets in a big way.”

Neither Eric Trump nor Donald Trump Jr. responded to Reuters’ requests for comment regarding the president’s personal investment decisions.

The disclosures offer one of the clearest insights to date into how President Trump has managed the substantial proceeds generated by his family’s cryptocurrency businesses, revealing a strategy that combines continued participation in digital assets with significant investment in more traditional financial markets.
