No fewer than 1,000 teachers have been equipped with practical teaching skills at the Sparkle Foundation and Alpha Global Teachers’ Training Conference held across Ogun State, with stakeholders calling for greater investment in education to improve learning outcomes in Nigeria.

According to The Guardian, the conference, themed “Teaching with Purpose: Equipping Educators and Raising Change Makers,” underscored the critical role teachers play in nurturing future leaders and promoting sustainable national development.

Speaking at the event, Ogun State Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako Oyedele, commended the Chief Executive Officer of Sparkle Foundation, Mrs Olasimbo Ojuroye, and the Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Global, Mrs Caroline Popoola, for their commitment to improving education and supporting teachers, particularly those serving children from disadvantaged communities.

She described the initiative as an important platform for celebrating, encouraging and equipping teachers, urging educators to continue seeing their profession as a calling and a service to humanity.

According to the deputy governor, every leader, entrepreneur, professional and change maker once sat in a classroom under the guidance of a teacher, highlighting the profession’s enduring impact on society.

Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Evangelist Joshua Olalekan Ifede, and the Executive Director of Bet9ja Foundation, Mrs Ada Cuomo, emphasised that investing in teachers remains one of the most strategic investments any society can make.

Vice Principal of Green Springs School, Ikoyi, Mrs Omobola Odutayo, who served as one of the facilitators, encouraged educators to adopt innovative teaching approaches that inspire creativity, critical thinking and lifelong learning among students.

The conference also provided opportunities for networking, collaboration and professional development, enabling teachers from different schools and communities to exchange ideas, experiences and best practices.

Participants agreed that improving learning outcomes requires sustained investment in teacher development through regular training, mentorship and continuous professional support.

The organisers said the Sparkle Foundation Teachers’ Training Conference forms part of the Foundation’s broader commitment to advancing quality education by strengthening the capacity of educators and ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has access to motivated and well trained teachers.

At the end of the conference, participants reaffirmed their commitment to teaching with purpose and nurturing a generation of confident, innovative and responsible young people capable of transforming their communities and contributing to national development.
