The Kenyan government has paid the outstanding marking allowances owed to thousands of teachers and professionals who participated in the marking of the 2025 national examinations after the National Treasury released the required funds.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Education confirmed that all examiners involved in marking the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations had received the balance of their allowances.
The ministry said the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) processed and disbursed the payments after receiving KSh1.5 billion from the National Treasury on July 7, 2026. The funds were specifically allocated to settle outstanding payments owed to examiners for the 2025 marking exercise.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba praised the examiners and other contracted professionals for their patience, commitment and dedication throughout the assessment process.
The Ministry of Education also acknowledged the vital role played by examiners in maintaining the integrity, quality and credibility of Kenya’s national examinations.
The payment of the outstanding allowances is expected to provide relief to thousands of teachers and education professionals who had been awaiting the completion of their remuneration following the 2025 national examinations.
