Former Kano State Governor and Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, alongside former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, is leading efforts to mobilise political support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The initiative is being coordinated through Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A), a political support group that plans to strengthen grassroots mobilisation across Nigeria’s 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Chesa Chesa of The Authority, the group presented its mobilisation strategy during a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, in Abuja. The group said it would work with the party and its campaign structures to increase voter participation and support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Shekarau explained that A4A intends to address voter apathy by establishing operational structures at state, local government and ward levels. The group has also reviewed previous election results to identify areas where turnout and political participation could be improved.

Lalong described the initiative as a complementary effort that would draw on the experience of former governors, lawmakers and other political figures while working alongside existing APC structures.

The group also plans to publicise federal government projects and programmes in Northern Nigeria, arguing that greater public awareness would help citizens assess the administration’s recor

The mobilisation effort highlights the importance of grassroots organisation and voter participation ahead of the 2027 elections. Its proposed network across Northern Nigeria could strengthen the APC’s campaign coordination, although the group’s eventual impact will depend on its implementation and voters’ responses.

Beyond political mobilisation, public debate is likely to focus on security, economic conditions, infrastructure, education and employment as voters assess the performance of elected leaders.
