Bayern Munich suffered a frustrating setback in the UEFA Champions League after Norwegian side Viking fought back to secure a dramatic 3-3 draw, with a late equaliser punishing the German giants following Michael Olise’s dismissal.
Viking stunned Bayern with two first-half goals, as Gianni Stensness headed home a corner after just 72 seconds before Peter Christiansen doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 38th minute.
Bayern struggled to respond before the break but returned with renewed determination. Harry Kane reduced the deficit from the penalty spot shortly after half-time after Konrad Laimer was fouled inside the box.
The England captain then levelled the contest in the 60th minute, heading home a Joshua Kimmich cross to put Bayern back in contention.
Luis Díaz thought he had scored shortly afterwards, but his effort was ruled out for offside. The Colombian eventually found the net following a move initiated by Kane, whose pass sent Laimer through before the rebound fell to Díaz.
Bayern appeared poised to complete a remarkable comeback with a 3-2 lead, but Olise’s dismissal changed the game. The French winger received two yellow cards within a minute, the second for dissent, leaving the visitors with 10 men.
Viking seized the opportunity, with Herman Haugen scoring in the 90th minute to secure a memorable point against the European heavyweights.
Olise’s red card also means he will miss Bayern’s next Champions League fixture against Arsenal in Munich.
Despite the disappointment, Kane extended his scoring run to nine consecutive Champions League matches, equalling Robert Lewandowski’s club record and moving within two games of Cristiano Ronaldo’s competition record of 11.
