Nigeria’s volleyball coaching capacity has received a boost after four tacticians, including the head coaches of the senior men’s and women’s national teams, earned Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Level II coaching certificates.
The Nigeria Volleyball Federation’s Vice President, Prince Tunde Omisore, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the coaches passed their promotional examinations in The Gambia.
The newly certified coaches are women’s team head coach Elishama Elam, men’s team head coach Taiwo Oladipupo, Ayokunnu Aboderin and Dauda Saje, who also represents players on the NVBF board.
Saje emerged as the overall best candidate after recording the highest score in the examinations.
Omisore congratulated the coaches, describing their achievement as an important step towards strengthening Nigeria’s technical expertise ahead of upcoming international competitions.
He said the development aligns with the federation’s commitment to improving the quality of technical leadership available to the national teams.
“This is a plus for Nigeria’s technical crew, as four coaches are now FIVB Level II certified,” Omisore said.
He added that the knowledge gained would enhance the federation’s technical department and support Technical Adviser Ryan Masajedi in carrying out his responsibilities effectively.
The certification comes as Nigeria prepares its senior men’s and women’s teams for the 2027 African Games in Egypt.
The federation expects the coaches to play important roles in preparing the teams for the competition, where Nigeria will target strong performances and podium finishes in both categories.
The achievement marks another step in efforts to develop local coaching expertise and improve the competitiveness of Nigerian volleyball on the continental stage.
