The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Kwara State, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, has denied allegations that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq imposed him on the party ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Danladi, who emerged as the APC candidate following the party’s governorship primary, has faced controversy over the process that produced him as the party’s flagbearer.
The controversy followed objections from some party elders and governorship aspirants, who questioned the legitimacy of the primary and raised concerns about possible attempts to impose a preferred candidate.
However, other APC stakeholders have defended Danladi’s emergence, insisting that the party’s internal process was conducted properly.
The disagreement has highlighted divisions within the Kwara APC as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor AbdulRazaq had earlier denied endorsing or submitting any aspirant’s name to President Bola Tinubu as his preferred successor, maintaining that the party’s selection process should determine its candidate.
The governor also previously pledged that the APC would conduct an open and competitive governorship primary.
Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja recently dismissed a suit seeking to invalidate Danladi’s candidacy, ruling that the claimant lacked the legal standing to challenge his nomination. The court also awarded ₦10 million in costs against the claimant.
The development comes as political stakeholders continue to debate internal democracy, party unity and the process of selecting candidates for the forthcoming election.
