Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca says his players remain focused on football despite the controversy surrounding the club following the Premier League verdict on its financial charges.
The club was found guilty of 114 of the 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations. Manchester City has denied wrongdoing and appealed the independent commission’s findings.
Maresca said the mood within the squad remained positive as the players returned to training ahead of their Premier League trip to Liverpool on Sunday.
According to the manager, the players are concentrating on their performances and are not allowing the ongoing controversy to distract them.
He said the squad was excited about the upcoming fixtures, particularly because City currently sit at the top of the Premier League table.
Maresca also expressed confidence in the club’s leadership, saying he remained calm despite the potential consequences of the verdict.
Manchester City has maintained that the commission’s decision contains significant errors and has launched an appeal against the findings.
The verdict relates to allegations spanning several seasons, with the independent commission finding that the club breached financial regulations and used arrangements it described as disguised funding.
City striker Erling Haaland has also urged supporters, players and staff to remain united and positive as the club deals with the situation.
The attention will now shift to Sunday’s high-profile clash at Anfield, where City will face Liverpool as they look to maintain their strong start to the season.
