Modibbo Adama University, Yola, has mourned the death of Emeritus Professor Ahmed Tijjani Suleiman, a former Vice Chancellor of the institution and renowned scholar in energy engineering.
The university’s Information Office said Prof. Suleiman died yesterday evening following a brief illness. He led the institution, then known as the Federal University of Technology, Yola, as Vice Chancellor between 1988 and 1995.
Prof. Suleiman had a distinguished career in academia and public service. He began his academic journey at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he later taught, before joining the University of Sokoto and rising to the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor.
Beyond his tenure at MAU, he served briefly as Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja and held a commissioner position in Jigawa State. He also served twice as President of the Solar Energy Society of Nigeria.
In its tribute, the university described his contributions to the development of the institution and the wider education sector as significant, noting his years of dedicated service to academia and the nation.
The late professor is scheduled to be buried today in Ringim, Jigawa State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibrahim Umar, on behalf of the university management, Governing Council, Senate, staff and students, expressed condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and associates of the deceased.
