The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has endorsed Governor Uba Sani for a second term in office, citing measures it said had improved the welfare of retirees in the state.

The endorsement was made on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the union to the governor at the Kaduna State Government House, where pensioners also presented him with an award recognising his administration’s support for senior citizens.

The union’s state secretary, Alhassan Balarabe Musa, said the state government had released more than ₦21 billion within three years to settle outstanding gratuities and death benefits.

He said pensioners now receive their entitlements more promptly, while noting that delays had previously affected some local government pensioners.

The Deputy National Chairman of the NUP, Abdullahi Usman Onuh, said the union had about 16,000 pensioners in Kaduna State and urged members to support Sani’s re-election bid.

Responding, Governor Sani said his administration valued the contributions of pensioners and pledged to review monthly pension entitlements in response to prevailing economic conditions.

He also approved the union’s request for a bus and promised to allocate land to the NUP within Kaduna metropolis.

The development comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to intensify across Kaduna State.
