The Federal Government has recognised outstanding teachers, school administrators and schools across Nigeria with the 2026 President’s Teachers’ and Schools’ Excellence Awards.
The awards were presented as part of activities marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration, with the government using the occasion to honour educators who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to teaching and learning.
Mary Oluwaseun Adebayo of Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School Senior, Abeokuta, Ogun State, emerged as the Overall Best Teacher and also won the Best Public Senior Secondary School Teacher award.
Gloria Nkolika Odionu of Awada Primary School IV, Obosi, Anambra State, was named Overall Best Administrator and Best Public Primary School Administrator.
Other recognised teachers and administrators included Hope Oluchi Nwocha of Susu College, Nkpor, Anambra, Agartha Chika Oforjindu of Urban Boy Secondary School, Onitsha, Anambra, and Oluwatoyin Ashaye of Remo Secondary School Senior, Sagamu, Ogun State.
Ogechukwu Jacinta Ifeajekwu of Divine Rays British Secondary School, Obosi, Anambra, won Best Private Junior Secondary School Teacher, while Peace Amarachi Ohanuka of Ideke Community Primary School, Odekpe, Anambra, received the Best Public Primary School Teacher award.
Among the schools recognised were Divine Rays British Secondary School, Handmaids Infant Jesus Nursery and Basic School, Austica Memorial College, Community Primary School, Mile 2, Abeokuta, and Federal Government College, Otobi.
The Federal Government said the awards were part of efforts to recognise excellence in education and motivate teachers and schools to improve learning outcomes nationwide.
