Police Pension Fund Weighs Dangote Refinery Investment

The Nigeria Police Force Pensions Limited is considering investing in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals as part of efforts to diversify its portfolio and sustain returns for police personnel and retirees.

The Acting Managing Director of NPF Pensions, Muhammed Dutse, disclosed this in Abuja during activities marking the 2026 Customer Service Week.

Dutse said the pension fund was exploring alternative investment opportunities because declining interest rates could reduce returns from traditional fixed income and bank investments.

He said the fund was looking at opportunities in the energy sector, infrastructure funds, private equity and the stock market, stressing that the organisation would not depend solely on bank returns.

According to him, the Dangote Refinery was among the investment opportunities being considered because of its growing importance in Nigeria’s economy.

Dutse said NPF Pensions had recorded average annual returns of about 23 to 24 per cent over the past five years, with returns approaching 37 per cent in one year.

He added that the organisation had developed strategies to maintain strong returns despite changing financial market conditions.

Earlier in 2026, the National Pension Commission granted pension fund administrators special regulatory approval to invest in the planned Dangote Refinery initial public offering, citing the refinery’s strategic importance and growth potential.
