Lagos has been confirmed as the host city for the 2026 CAF Awards, with the prestigious ceremony scheduled for December 7, marking the return of the continental event to Nigeria’s commercial capital after more than 11 years.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that this year’s ceremony will take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Theatre, in Iganmu.
The event will be the fourth CAF Awards ceremony hosted by Lagos, following previous editions in 2008, 2013 and 2014.
The last Lagos edition was held on January 8, 2015, honouring outstanding performances from across African football. Former Ivory Coast captain Yaya Toure won the African Player of the Year award for a record fourth consecutive time, while Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala claimed the Women’s Player of the Year prize.
Toure had also won the men’s award at the 2013 ceremony in Lagos, defeating Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel and Ivorian legend Didier Drogba.
The 2026 ceremony is expected to attract some of Africa’s biggest football personalities, including leading players, coaches, administrators and other stakeholders.
CAF will use the occasion to recognise outstanding individual and team performances across the continent, with several prestigious categories expected to feature.
The confirmation of Lagos as host city provides another major opportunity for Nigeria to showcase its capacity to stage high-profile continental sporting events.
With the December date now confirmed, attention will shift to preparations for the ceremony and the eventual announcement of nominees for the various awards.
